My work uses large genomic datasets to uncover how processes that act within infected hosts and across continents shape virus diversity and impact human health. In the lab we rely on genomic sequencing, computational biology, and phylogenetics to decode the evolutionary relationships that develop during an epidemic and understand interactions between virus evolution and epidemiology. I’m interested in how evolutionary processes within individuals can be used to anticipate global evolutionary trends and how social factors like human mobility and vaccination impact virus transmission and evolution.
