The Graduate Certificate Program in Public Health Genetics provides graduate students in any other University of Washington graduate degree program an opportunity to get training in the field of Public Health Genetics through a transcripted curriculum.
The program provides training in three primary areas of public health genetics:
- Genetic epidemiology
- Pharmacogenomics
- Ethical, legal, and social issues in genetics
Students who complete the program will receive the Certificate from the Institute for Public Health Genetics. The Certificate will be acknowledged on the student's official UW transcript.
Curriculum
The following courses are required for the Certificate:

PHG 511, 512, and 513 must be taken for a grade. PHG 580 is taken on a credit/no-credit basis.
Prerequisites include coursework in genetics, genomics, epidemiology and biostatistics.

Admission to the Certificate Program
Applications for the certificate program are reviewed monthly Autumn, Winter, and Spring quarters.
To submit an application:
- complete the Graduate Certificate Application form
- required to upload on the application form:
- Statement of Purpose (500 words maximum; pdf or word): Discuss your educational and professional background, reasons for joining the program, career goals, and how the Graduate Certificate in Public Health Genetics would contribute to those goals
